Early Years Provision
We have a sixty place Nursery and offer full time places for all children.
The teachers in Nursery class are Mrs Collins and Miss McDonald. They have enjoyed teaching the children at Co-op Academy Clarice Cliff for many years and work alongside our Early Years Practitioner, Mrs Hazledine.
Mrs Halket also works in the Nursery classroom, providing speech and language support. The Nursery staff are well qualified and staff/pupil ratios meet the recognised standards for a Nursery Unit (1:13). The Nursery staff are dedicated to fostering the development of each child and providing opportunities for social, physical, emotional and intellectual development.
Year Group Information
Prior to children starting the Nursery, members of our Nursery team will complete a Home Visit in order to get to know children and their families. Following this, there will be a phased induction during the first few weeks of the Autumn Term. Children begin their school life at Co-op Academy Clarice Cliff in our bright, spacious and modern purpose built Nursery classroom and outdoor area. Outdoor facilities include covered learning and play areas, large equipment such as a pirate ship and climbing frames and a racing track for outdoor bikes and scooters. The children take part in play based activities and access a broad and balanced curriculum. The curriculum offered in the Nursery encourages children to learn to share, learn simple rules and express themselves through creative and pleasurable activities within a secure and stimulating environment. They learn essential skills such as fastening their coat, writing their name and counting. Each day the children take part in creative activities such as singing and dancing. They enjoy daily phonics sessions, learning how to recognise letters of the alphabet, and to read and write simple words. They join in with daily maths sessions, learning how to count, recognise and write numbers.
Our curriculum and topics are designed to excite our pupils and enthuse them in their learning. Each topic has been carefully created to teach a wide range of skills and knowledge, whilst covering all aspects of the National Curriculum.

During the year, the curriculum will be enhanced with enriching experiences such as watching eggs hatch, visiting the local pond and going for seasonal walks.
Nursery staff like to work in close contact with parents and carers. They are always available to discuss children’s development or any concerns, both at the start and the end of each school day.
We have three Parents’ Evenings during the year; one in each term. Each meeting is an opportunity to discuss your child’s learning and celebrate their achievements and progress.
The summer term meeting is an opportunity to meet your child’s new teacher for the following year and find out all about their new class and year group ahead of the summer holidays. This helps our parents and children to prepare for these changes and come back in September feeling settled and ready to learn.
